Okefenoke REMC annually sponsors two scholarship programs — OREMC Scholarship and the Walter Harrison Scholarship — and applications to both are now being accepted. Applicants for either scholarship may be a high-school senior or an undergraduate college or vocational/technical student. Non-traditional students are also eligible to apply.

OREMC Scholarships are $2,000 each and 10 are available based on the following criteria:

  • Applicants must reside in one of eight counties included in OREMC’s service area: Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Glynn, Ware and Wayne in Georgia; and Baker and Nassau in Florida.
  • Funds may be used at any accredited college, university or technical school in the United States.

Walter Harrison Scholarships are funded by the Georgia’s electric cooperatives and administered by Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (EMC). Based on the applications received, OREMC will submit two applications to Georgia EMC to be judged along those received by other EMCs across the state. Eleven (11) Walter Harrison Scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded in 2019 based on the following criteria:

  • Applicants must live in a household (primary residence) of a member or an employee of OREMC.
  • Funds must be used at a college, university or technical school located in Georgia.

Detailed information and applications are available by clicking here or through area high school counselors. Applicants are welcome to apply for one or both of the scholarships, provided the criteria for each is met. Previous winners of either scholarship are not eligible to compete for a second scholarship from the same source. Questions about the scholarships should be directed to Dewayne Johns, member service representative, at 800-262-5131 ext. 1143 or via email at dewayne.johns@oremc.com

The deadline for all complete applications is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2019. To be considered, all applications must be dropped off at our OREMC office in Nahunta or Kingsland, Georgia, or Hilliard, Florida. They can also be mailed to OREMC, Attn: Scholarships, PO Box 609 Nahunta, GA, 31553.
