Okefenoke Rural Electric Membership Corporation (OREMC) and Georgia Transmission Corporation (GTC) have been working closely with Federal, State and Local Fire Command Post and are monitoring the West Mims Fire as it may impact both high voltage transmission and distribution power lines in its path. To date, 10 of OREMC’s distribution poles have been affected. This resulted in service interruptions to customers in the area. All service has been restored at the present time. Should the fire spread in a southeasterly direction, GTC’s Homeland – Macedonia 115 kV Transmission Line may be impacted. If so, GTC has a plan to re-route power to two substations that bring power to that region.
GTC crews and OREMC crews are on standby with needed equipment ready to restore any damage to the electric system.
Anyone encountering a downed power line is urged to keep a safe distance away and call 911.
