OREMC Golf Tournament Raises $23,000 for Cancer Care

June 26th, 2024

Just six months after hosting its 2023 Golf Tournament and donating a record-breaking $25,000 to the Southeast Cancer Unit, Inc., OREMC moved the annual event back to spring and held its 2024 Golf Tournament in April. The tournament raised another $23,000 for the Southeast Cancer Unit. These funds will directly benefit cancer patients undergoing treatment in Brantley, Pierce and Ware counties with medical and travel expenses related to their care.

Linda Henderson, coordinator of the Brantley Branch of the Southeast Cancer Unit, Inc., accepted the check expressing a great deal of heartfelt emotion, “Thank you so much. You keep us going. We have 170 patients we are helping right now and we couldn’t do it without all the hard work OREMC puts in to the tournament fundraising.”

“To have raised and donated $48,000 to the Southeast Cancer Unit in six months is a testament to our players and sponsors who give so generously to support our OREMC community,” stated OREMC Director of Communications & Marketing Michele Hutchins. “This tournament has grown tremendously over the past seven years—attracting new sponsors and selling out our foursomes well in advance of the tournament date. Much like our cooperative, the tournament is by the community, for the community. It certainly takes a village to make this type of impact.”

Presented by Oglethorpe Power Corporation/Georgia Transmission/Georgia System Operations, the OREMC Golf Tournament’s major sponsors included: EnerVision, Links/Hospitality Sponsor; Balch & Bingham, LLP, Range Sponsor; Altec, Towel Sponsor; Southeastern Bank, Golf Ball Sponsor; Cart Sponsors Asplundh, Davison Farms, Inc., Greer Wealth Advisors, Irby Utilities and Pike Electric; Fairway Sponsors Ace Pole Company, Pierce Timber, Tri-State Utility Products, Helena Agri-Enterprises, Meridian Cooperative and Mountaineer Electric; and Prize Sponsors AMSCO Incorporated and King and Prince Golf Club. A special thank you also goes to player Pat Shelton for his donation of potato salad to feed the golfers and volunteers.
